LAS Donor Feature: Support for Single Parents and Non-Traditional Students

Mary Lynn Stockman (Willis), 1987 UCCS Grad, Biology

Attending UCCS gave Mary Lynn Stockman (Willis) an excellent foundation for further studies and led to a fulfilling career as a Nutritionist. She received several scholarships as a UCCS student, and felt that she would have been unable to complete her studies without them. She has a special place in her heart for single parents who are also university students and desires to pass along the gifts of scholarships.  Read more about Mary Lynn and the Scholarship she established below.

Mary Lynn Stockman (Willis) was born and raised in Evanston Illinois. Her father was a professor at Northwestern University in Marketing Management and her mother later obtained a master’s degree in rehabilitation. Mary Lynn lived in Alaska and worked a gold claim and was a waitress. She did factory work in California and worked on and co-owned a chicken ranch in Arkansas. She moved to Colorado with her five year old son after her husband died in a motorcycle accident. She graduated from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) magna cum laude with a BA in Biology and was the Outstanding Student in the Natural Sciences in 1987. She obtained a MS in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Colorado State University (CSU), became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and worked in long-term care.

MARY LYNN STOCKMAN ENDOWED LETTERS, ARTS & SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The funds generated by the endowment will be used to provide undergraduate scholarship awards for students enrolled in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Single parents/non-traditional students are encouraged to apply. Mary Lynn was a single parent while at UCCS.
